David Kuijers Art, Original Prints & Paintings

David was born in South Africa in 1962 into a family where art was held to be of the highest importance. His father was himself an artist and encouraged David to draw and paint from an early age. Surrounded by art materials, books and paintings, it was inevitable that art was always going to be a part of this young man’s life.

In 1980 David graduated from Art School with a Distinction in Graphics and the “Best Painter Award” for his year. He went on to pursue a career as a signwriter, before deciding to take a diploma in Graphic Design and Illustration. After graduating in 1989 with the Merit Award he worked as a designer and illustrator, but did not enjoy the restrictions this imposed on his artwork. Painting had remained a major part of David’s life throughout this period, so in 1999 he finally decided to make the transition to professional artist.
Some large and prestigious commissions eased the way for David, along with a hugely successful first sell out exhibition. His work was enthusiastically received across the art world and he has never looked back.

David’s dazzling African landscapes and townscapes depict the extraordinary beauty and diversity of the continent, and his vibrant palette and relaxed composition make his artwork uniquely joyous and uplifting.

“Through painting I can engage with the physical environment in new and fresh ways, taking a journey of unknown and tantalising
possibilities. At the end of every painting I am a little different - when I paint I leave for a place of exaggerated awareness, of relaxed
concentration, a friendlier place!”
