Douglas was born in Harrogate in 1965. After graduating from Scarborough College with a Higher National Diploma in Advertising and Illustration, he went on to achieve a distinction in illustration from Doncaster College of Art.
As time went on Douglas began to concentrate his efforts in two areas; book jacket design for several major UK publishers, and portraiture. The latter provided his entry into the world of fine art, as his portraits made a strong impression on a number of celebrity collectors, and word of his talent began to spread into the artistic community.
