From a family of painters, Libby started life as a teacher, but a car accident led her to think seriously about her goals, and to explore the possibility of a career in the world of fine art.
Painting initially for family and friends, Libby’s popularity began to grow, and soon she began holding small local exhibitions. From here she moved on to national art and craft fairs, as a result of which she gained numerous special commissions. The overwhelming response to her work encouraged Libby to embark upon a full time career as an artist. Tremendous interest has led to her delightful work being reproduced as limited edition prints and original silkscreens.
Libby’s early pieces of artwork were semi-abstract gardens and seascapes rendered in pastel, but she soon discovered the joys of mixed-media and with this her work moved to a new level. Over the last few years, she has built a considerable reputation for flouting convention and introducing one surprise after another, allowing her playful personality to shine through a range of enchanting creations.
Although she takes much of her inspiration from the world around her, Libby finds herself greatly influenced by literature and includes quotations in some of her work. With themes taken from fairy stories and poetry, her pictures are always intriguing and full of fun, charm and sentiment. Popular with galleries all over the country, she continues to attract an ever growing number of collectors.
“ I love taking the apparently ordinary and working with it until it becomes something magical. I only have to see a rainbow set against a strong purple sky and my imagination starts whirring”.
