Roger Ford was born in North Devon and has lived and worked in the region the whole of his life. Having been a commercial sign-writer for 30 years he has worked on numerous large-scale projects and in a wide variety of media.
Roger considers his main inspiration to be the vibrant and captivating coastline of the West Country. His images are created using techniques such as Sgraffito, a technique where a top layer of colour is scratched to reveal a colour beneath. The term comes from the Italian word ‘sgraffire’ meaning (literally) ‘to scratch’.
